Living with a weak pound
|
Our gites in France remain a good value for money and hassle-free holiday destination despite the strength of the Euro.
Accommodation: our gites are priced in sterling with no extras or surcharges except for winter logs.
Ferry Travel: our guests are entitled to a twenty percent discount on standard Brittany Ferries fares.
A major cost on a self catering holiday is fuel: our gites are one hundred miles from St Malo, one hundred and fifty from Roscoff and two hundred from Caen. The current cost of a litre of diesel is 1.20€, that's £1.02 at today's exchange rate (Dec 2010), so it will cost about twelve pounds in fuel to drive a family here from St Malo in a diesel car - not bad! UL 95 petrol is dearer at about 1.40€(£1.19)/Litre (28/12/10 see: http://www.zagaz.com) and Brittany's roads are very fuel efficient - modern with few traffic jams. If you fly and hire a car then Rennes and Nantes airports are 60 miles and Dinard is 100 miles.
Once you're here you don't have to drive far to shop or find something interesting to do: our gites are six miles from the coast, village shops are one and a half miles away, and supermarkets four and a half. The closest family attraction is a chateau wildlife park 1.5 miles away and famous throught the region. Our half acre garden is very popular with children in the summertime and for adults taking it easy over a drink or lunch or dinner, it is pretty, filled with birdsong and is always well maintained. French voices drift over the hedge from time to time and there is no pressure to leave the premises if you just want to relax....
When you shop for food in France, look out for the weekly special offers or Promotions. Prices are sometimes half the usual ones. We'll point you towards these special offers each week if you wish. There are three supermarkets (Super U, Carrefour Market and Lidl) and a Friday market in Muzillac four and a half miles away, and an Intermarché, Carrefour Market and Lidl and a Monday market in Questembert five miles away so there's plenty of choice.

Eating out: You can still enjoy a freshly cooked three course lunch for around ten Euros (£8.50) and an evening menu at fifteen Euros (£13) plus wine. We will advise our guests of current prices and willingly book tables for them if required.
